The Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic provides access to quality health
services to uninsured low-income residents in NW Fairfax County
through a network of volunteer health care professionals and
community volunteers.  We need your help……

Volunteer at the Clinic
- Both Medical and Non-Medical volunteers
are needed to assist at the adult and children’s clinic on alternating
Thursday evenings and monthly at an adult clinic on Wednesday
evening.  Office hours from 9am-noon and day time clinic hours
offer lots of volunteer opportunities.

Take on an At Home Project
- As we grow and expand the list of
things we could be doing to make our work reach more people and
go further into our service area of NW Fairfax County has also
grown.  Data entry, outreach development, compiling recruitment
information, even helping the clinic “go green” are projects we have
waiting for someone to accept to do.  Could one of those be right for
you?  Find out by requesting the list of what needs done.

Help Us Spread the Word about the JSFC- Volunteers are
needed to staff community booths and blood pressure screening
events to educate people in our community about the services at
JSFC Training on how to do BP testing is provided.  Volunteer for
any of the
events on our Clinic Outreach Schedule.

Donate and Assemble Patient Care Bags-   We provide each
child that attends our clinic with a bag filled with a toothbrush, tooth
paste, a little toy (like a beanie baby) and  other fun items children
would enjoy receiving (stickers, crayons, notebook, pencils etc.)
Adult bags with personal care items such as toothbrush, toothpaste,
dental floss, deodorant, shaving crème razors etc. are distributed at
our adult clinics.   You can help support JSFC by collecting these
items and putting them together to be passed out at the clinic. Or we
can provide the volunteer labor if you can collect the supplies.

Provide Dinner for Our Volunteers-
Our volunteers give their
time right through the dinner hour so we provide dinner for 30
volunteers each week in appreciation.  The food is also shared with
the families once the clinic begins. Your home cooked meal would
be greatly appreciated and it’s an easy way to support HFC.
Guidelines are available upon request at freeclinicvols@aol.com

Provide Transportation for our Patients
- We are exploring
options for assisting our patients in getting to outside appointments
with specialists.  If you are available to provide this service from time
to time or have information about groups who could help us please
let us know.  Joining a list of volunteers to be called on for this
purpose would greatly assist us.

Hold a Vitamin Drive-
We provide the children and adults who
attend our clinics with an unopened bottle of vitamins.  For the
children, it’s multi-vitamins with iron. For the adults it is Vitamin D
200-400 IU and Calcium 500-600 mg.  Combinations of the two work
well also with an emphasis on the dosage level of calcium. Generic
brands are fine as well as OS cal, Caltrate, Citracal, etc. Your group
can help support the clinic by asking members to give this gift of
good health.

Hold a School Supplies Drive – It is very expensive to keep a
child well stocked with school supplies.  This is an ongoing struggle
for families.  Your group could ease this struggle for some in our
community by asking your members to purchase notebooks, pens,
pencils etc. to be distributed at our children’s clinic year round.

Organize a Book Drive -   The children who attend our clinic, and
their siblings, are encouraged to take books home with them.  A
donation of gently used books keeps our supplies available and
brings a smile to the faces of families we serve.

Play Golf!  The Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic hosted its 2nd Annual
Golf Tournament on October 9  last year.  Sign up to play in 2008 in
order to win prizes, have lunch and support JSFC!  Don’t golf?
Then come help us run the event. For more information please call
703.481.8160 ext 4.

clinics possible.   Please consider making a financial donation to the

Help Maintain Our Supplies
– We have a list of supplies that we
need on an ongoing basis, both medical and clerical and some
which we need to keep us organized in our new location.  Email
freeclinicvols@aol.com to request that list and become a Friend of
the Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic!

Help Plan the Party! – If planning events is a skill you have and is
something you enjoy doing please help us with these special
activities. Planning committees will be formed to organize the
following for 2008:

Please consider joining us in making these events and others a
success.

Bring Your Ideas to Us!  We love new ideas.  If you have an idea
and you have been looking for a place to bring it to life, we would
love to hear about it.  Together we can see if it will work for us.
